A favour, dear friends list...
Please could you go to reddit
, and suggest your favorite scienticfic (inc. mathematical) topic? We're trying to make a list of the most popular 100 suggested, in parallel to the book meme (but really I'm trying to argue against the idea that we couldn't even get 100 people to suggest anything!)

I was about to moan about having to sign up for yet another website, but then bugmenot.com came to the rescue ;-)

I don't know why he put it on reddit, I'd have just done it on LJ.
Yes, but you're probably the only person we know whose LJ has more readers than science.reddit :P
a lot of readers!
Maybe we could get jwz
to link to it...
*briefly considers what jwz
would do if asked*
Nah, let's not...
Audience. Many, many more people read reddit than my LJ. Unfortunately, the post hasn't received many votes, so not many people have seen it - could you also ask people to vote the submission up (click the little "up" arrow next to the title) so that more people see it? I'm not karma whoring, honest...

It probably took you longer to find the bugmenot login than to create an account :-)
But yeah, sorry about that. I wasn't expecting atreic
to do this. If people want to suggest topics either here or on my post, that's cool with me.

I would complain that given the people you're going to survey, there will be a heavy bias towards mathematics and abstract physics and away from the larger and more rapidly developing fields of applied physics, engineering and biochemistry, but that would probably be taking this too seriously.

Well, I voted for power electronics. I even go to seminars on the subject.
Interesting thought. Reddit itself has a CS/engineering bias, but atreic
's LJ will probably have more of a maths bias. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out :-)
I don't think I can choose just one, unless its too broad to be meaningful; ie Ecology, subsets I like at moment include behavioural ecology, and the design and management of reverses. Not my favorite, but the list should also include evolutionary biology and or subsets of.
There appears to be a requirement to create an account in order to comment, which I am not willing to do. My favourite scientific topic is general relativity.
