I have just returned from* the most fabulous weekend. A long time ago Elly and Sam came up with the great idea of doing a large readthrough of all the Buffy the Vampire Slayer relating to Faith. And as Elly has not been very well I got to be co-orginiser** and so spent a significant chunk of last week when I should have been thinking about work thinking about printing out scripts and who was sleeping in which room and who was cooking dinner and generally working myself into a logistical panic.
Which was daft, because I forgot the key point, which is that when you get 20 fabulous, kind, helpful and talented people together in the same place Things Just Work***. Thank you so, so, much, everyone who ran around and paddled like crazy to keep the swan of the readthrough gliding along never too much off course. So then I just got to lose myself in the story, which for me was the whole point of it all. Well, that and the incredably good company, food, drink, sauna, costumes, and innovative approaches to kitchen chores.
I'm hoping to write a longer post where I narg over all the glorious detail, but if I start I may never stop, and there are things I need to do before tomorrow. So I just want to say thank you to Sam, for making it all happen and chivvying me on and calming me down at just the right moments!
*actually that's not true, I have returned from, slept lots, done the shopping, unpacked at least a little bit, and read a lot of LJ.
** actually, it was more like Sam and Sally, organiser and disorganiser :-) Luckilly there wasn't a big explosion when we hugged.
*** on a point of order, this doesn't mean that I will rely on things magically Just Working. I can think of quite a few things that could have made things magically Just Work even more smoothly, and should I ever find myself organising one of these things again (a thing that looked impossible on Friday, and incredably tempting now) I like to hope I'll have learned from my mistakes!
