30 year guarantee on state of dress

Presumably this is just in case your wedding turns out like Miss Havisham's?

(I freely admit to not understanding the whole wedding dress concept.)

Sorry, that comment doesn't make much sense because my brain wasn't really in gear. There's a point under there somewhere though: if you're not going to wear it then what's it for? (Not a criticism, just my brain obviously doesn't work the same way as yours -- I feel the same way about eg expensive antique fruit bowls and other things 'too good to use'. I suppose I'd rather have something I knew to be useful than felt to be beautiful...)

OK...

If I'm going to wear it again, it needs to be clean and fixed and stored somewhere

If I'm not going to wear it again, I either have to think about why I'm hording it, or sell it. If I'm going to sell it for what it's worth, it needs to be clean and fixed.

If I'm hording it, I'm hording it because it's important to me. If it's important to me I ought to look after it, so I ought to clean it and fix it, and if I'm hording it for years it'd be much more convenient if it were in a box.

OK, that makes sense; thanks for the explanation. (Do you expect to wear it again? I'd always thought of wedding dresses as rather one-off affairs, but maybe I'm out of touch.)

Well, there are a few things that it might be useful for, although at the moment I have no idea how likely it is that my longing to wear a wedding dress at them will outweigh my fear of trashing my wedding dress. I tend to be involved in plays and costumed read-throughs and fancy dress parties a fair bit. And I suppose that when we get to an n-year anniversary we might decide we want a blessing as another excuse for a party, and it'd be handy still to have the dress for that. And we might end up with an overly romantic daughter who thinks it would be cool to get married in it herself.

Aren't you supposed to be buried in it?
