I went to see the Two Shades of Blue productions the other day.
A rather random cross between Faust and Bad Play which wasn't to my taste at all (I go to the theatre to suspend disbelief and get carried away by the story, and TBH I have seen too many farcical CULES cock-ups in real life for a scripted LES cock-up to be able to compete. And it got in the way of the story!) but had some superb actors and some absolutely brillient lines. adqam had me in stiches as New Heaven, Toni was still marvelously Toni even with a bright red face, and benparker was playing benparker extremely well (although he has had years of practice). The men in tights who I didn't know (must be OULES?) were superb. And there was Rosie in a corset ;) So all in all, not really my thing, but some really really good moments and a great cast. I would love to see the same script done as Faust with all the Bad Play sillyness taken out.
Then there was the most glorious production of Wind in the Willows that everyone at the Fringe should go and see. The acting was consistently very good, the make-up was marvelous, and the whole thing just had me carried away for an hour, shuddering with horror at the most marvelously evil weasels, falling in love with the foppish and beautiful Ratty, fearing and loving gruff Badger... and Cath made an adorable Moley. And toad. Poor, poor toad. Carried away to ruin by his mad and stupid flights of fancy, until even his truest friends want to lock him up to save him from himself. Truly the best thing I've seen LES do, I think (although Cinderella is a close second) Balenced just right between jokes and story, even the topical one liners done so well they didn't break the flow. Yeah. If you're near edinburgh, go and see it :)
