I will never finish this marking and these questions before supervision. I'm weary already, and I have a whole morning ahead of me. Plus even if I plough through it all, the miserable conclusion I will come to is that both boys can do nearly all the questions. And then I'll have nothing to talk about, and no time to go to the library and look up something fun. Arrrrgh :'(

Tip: Even if you can't mark every question that everyone has answered, make sure that you mark at least some questions from each person...

at the moment I'm going for the "mark all of everyones Q1, then mark all of Q2" approach. This also means that I'm far more likely to spot when I've made a mistake as I'll see four people disagreeing with me at once (hopefully!)

try what our supervisor did
"I didn't read it, but you've written about the right amount, and you've given the algorithm the right name, so have a tick"

If you're short of time, you could try being cunning, and mark Q1, then Q3, then Q5 etc

I'm on 11/14 now...
Although to start with I was totally confused as to what they'd all done and thought that they'd gone insane, until I realised they'd renumbered the question sheet since my day

that's just mean. (I occasionally get the same thing when working from different versions of the text book. Of course, since i mark in calss, I then have to admit to the fact that I wasn't really paying attention and was just working off the answers I'd been given.)

Worse is when they use a really obscure method and it doesn't work, and they want to know why... it's so lame just to say "well, don't do it that way, do it my way" but it's never obvious whether it's their algebraic error, or a serious flaw in approaching the question in the way they have done. Unless you wade through *pages* of calculation...
And even worse is the invention of brand new questions right at the end of the sheet (damn you, question 14, damn you...)
