Yay! (Gratuitious New Icon post)
Lovely simont made me a* genuine square earth icon (for those of you not pedantic enough to notice the difference, the old one had 3 africas, but was the best I could find with 10 minutes on google)

If I was just that little bit younger I'd be going SQUEEEEEEEE very loudly at it. As it is, I'm trying desperately to find a way of expressing that level of chuffedness without sinking that low ;-)

Of course, the funkiest thing was the spinning globe but LJ in their wisdom won't let me have userpics that big. Ah well.

It doesn't quite look like me yet, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Real update to follow...

Update, still content free :-)

Look, look, look, robinbloke made my spinning globe smaller! Am not sure if it will drive me mad or not yet (am divided over what I think of moving icons), but am very very happy and feeling very spoilt at the moment.

The third irrelavent update

Yes, having a globe bouncing around the corner of my screen is very very funky, but also a strange combination of hypnotic and annoying. Besides, people** are starting to complain. So I'm going to use the spinning globe for very bouncy / important posts, and a normal, stationary sane globe for boring mundanitys. The Earth Moves, but only when I'm excited.

(simont and robinbloke will just have to do the best they can to make my life exciting, so their masterpiece can be seen by all ;-)

*Well, lots

I was thinking that if you'd been the kind of person to travel a lot, you could import all 24 of my globe frames as potential userpics, and always use the one that showed where you were at the time of posting any given thing :-)

That would rock - but I'd have to give LJ money to do that, which would involve having some. When they pay me for the PhD, then... (I think the default I picked is about as England-centric as they get)

Yeah, but if you were the type of person to travel all over the world, the userpic fee would be peanuts compared to all the air fares! :-)

The trick is to get somebody else to pay the air fares. :-)

That's mundanities? I read it as Mondayitis. Wonder if they're cognate...

Presumably not, since Monday comes from "moon" whereas mundanity comes from the Latin for "earth".

(The house opposite the one I grew up in had a sign on the front saying "Mundi". The wits in the house next to that promptly put up a sign saying "Choosdi".)
