I am having a big New Year, New Efforts to stay in touch with people. As such, I am taking the miriad of different places I have people's addresses jotted down, and trying to compile them into a System.

Even if you are 100% certain I already have your contact details, I would be very grateful if* you would either leave them (or a link to where they live) in a comment to this post (all comments screened) or email me***

Thanks!

2009, the year of excessive organisation!**

*Assuming that is that you want me to have your address. No offence if not!

** Oh how I will look back on that and laugh

***LJ email should reach me. My contact details are here, if I've put you on the right filter for my real email address.

Oh, the joy... but I'm not sure how I can sell it to M as a priority when I have neither unpacked from the house move nor written thankyous from the wedding that was 2 years ago...

Well, it's the sort of thing you can do gradually, as an ongoing project: catalogue another shelf-full sometime you've got another spare ten or fifteen minutes. I've found it tremendously useful, not least because now I know what books I've actually got (and which ones I've inadvertently bought an additional copy or two of). If I find myself in a bookshop, unable to remember which books in a trilogy or series I've actually got, I can search my own catalogue using the web-browser on my phone, and make sure I get the right ones.

Matthew has a barcode scanner and a hacky bit of python that will take any book with a barcode and turn it into ISBN, title and author in a handy library thing format. So it wouldn't even need to be a long project...

http://lnr.livejournal.com/442522.html - which is in my memories under "Contact Details (me)", and is also the first post (chronologically) in my journal. It is admittedly one of the very few friends only items I have.

I also have a "Contact Details (others)" category in my memories which you may find useful.

I would actively encourage you to unscreen this. And anyone who wants my details to comment if they need me to add them to my friends list.

It's all to do with the little eye icon at the top right - if it doesn't have a line through it, it's screened. Replying to things also unscreens them, but then you can screen them again very very quickly...

But I don't see a little eye icon. Maybe my style / your style / the combination of the two doesn't have it. Alas.

Maybe it's only the person who has the power to screen / unscreen comments who gets a little icon. In my style, the header of unscreened comments tends to be black, and of screened ones tends to be gray. Is that enlightening?

Sounds plausible. In the style I see, you're grey, I'm variously black and light grey (maybe you unscreened one but not the other of the comments), and everyone else is black.

Well, I hadn't unscreened this one, until I commented, and I haven't unscreened the address one, because, well, duh, that's the point of this discussion!

I reckon angoel's first comment is screened. I can see the title "(no subject)" but not expand it to read it.
I can read all the subsequent unscreened thread:
atreic "It's all to do with..."
angoel "But I don't see..."
atreic "Maybe it's only..."

So this is what I do with an unexpected halfday leave - come home and do systems analysis :-) I should get a life. Please to be sending one to here (flocked).

Also, you can log out and see if Joe Random Internet User could see it, which will also tell you if it's screened. That works less well on friends locked posts though.

I think people collecting addresses usually use a poll for it. Of course, you may have a different view on this.

I couldn't see the point. Why try to fit people into character limited tickyboxes when they could, err, just write them?
