I'm playing Lyra in the Ardgour readthrough of Northen Lights! It's the best thing in the world.

But I don't have a firm idea about costume yet... what are other people doing (esp. Mrs Coulter and Lord Asrail?)? Are we going for a very precise victorian/steam-punk/replica of the film type era? At the moment I think the best I can do is contemporary urchin, but I want to be inspired!

So, err, even if you're nothing to do with Ardgour but you have a clear mental image of Lyra then discuss it here, because it will be a great help!

Err, people who organise cool stuff (and their lucky friends and hangers on) get to do cool stuff. Organise some cool stuff!

Yay! I never expected people to bother with costume, but this is great because it feels like it's coming to life! I don't think Lyra is as remotely defined by what she wears as Mrs Coulter! Or even Asriel. So I don't think it's hugely important, though I don't really have a feel for costume.

I completely agree that it's not as important for Lyra at all, but costume turned out to be both a helpful crutch and an interesting way of thinking harder about who people were at bardcamp, so I thought it was worth wasting a bit of brainpower on.

I haven't seen the film, so won't be replicating that.

I wasn't particularly intending to costume at all, and don't have time to sort anything out especially, but having seen purplepiano's comment, I guess I'll probably grab something vaguely 1920s, perhaps involving embroidered peacock feathers (not sure whether you've seen that one), and maybe do my hair in an appropriate style.

You should perhaps have two costumes, one of which should be urchin-ish, and the other of which should be a bit like what I wear (only more prepubescent). Does the script give any more guidance than that?
