Wow! Has everyone seen the really cool new LJ feature that gives you… - Sally's Journal
Wow! Has everyone seen the really cool new LJ feature that gives you exciting new double golden padlocks on your filtered posts [only if you're in Style 2 though]? And tells you which of your filters can see them? So useful!
Ah, LJ, we do love you. How else could we continue to be emo inconsistant psycho bleeding-heart cliquey gossipy two-faced control-freaks if you didn't make it so easy ;-)

You could have made this post even funnier if you'd made it a filtered post, but with a filter that contained all your friends so that we would each think you were secretly admitting to two-facedness!
Oh, and yes it is nifty.
... except that you can only see your own filters. To outsiders, it only looks friendslocked. At least from my journals (I have two I can cross-reference, and each shows only its own).
I've used it for one thing so far, which is "stick my LARP-related waffling in a filter so that only the LARPers on my list read it and everyone else is spared the blather". :)
I haven't bothered with filters so far. Generally, if I don't want it known publicly, I don't post it at all. The rare in-between cases I friends-lock.
As my friends list grows, I may revise this policy.

Filters are too fiddly, really. I do have one or two but essentially never use them.

Err, you're on them, lest you wonder what ultra-low-frequency content you're missing l-)
:) *hugs* I was enchanted by the "expand thread" feature, which temporarily made reading 50+ comment posts possible, but it apparently went away again. I infer we're experimenting. What I really want is a reliable distributed LJ so you don't have to rely on exactly one central authority, and can add the features you want the most if you have a mind to, but that's a bit of a struggle to achieve.
Ah, yes, you're right. Thanks.
Is there anything you don't give out hugs for?!?
I think perhaps I'm sometimes a bit lacking in politeness grease, so try to make up for it with explicit affection.
Yes I like this new feature, makes it easy to track down filtered posts, and not have to be paranoid I didn't set it right :) I finally got round to switching to S2 as a result (though I can't seem to find a layout that I like as much as the one I originally had, bah).
I was a bit worried though that they were seriously considering advertising the fact that it was filtered to all your readers as well (not that I am in the habit of trying to filter things without people realising, I just don't think that previously private information should retroactively be made visible to others...)
That's twice in three days I've come across "emo" and I hae no idea what it means. Can anybody offer a definition?

Re: Help and old man
Short for "emotional", I think, but used in a perogative way, eg "oh, angsty emo teenage goths"

Re: Help and old man
As a style of music it has quite a lot in common with new romantic, only whinier.
Pics or it didn't happen ;-)
(In other words, no I've not seen that, as I believe I don't have Style 2)
