More Week
Surprisingly, most of my week has been full of Healthy Exercise. Spring is in the air, and the geeks of Chiark are celebrating by, err, going to indoor climbing walls and swimming pools. On Monday, after a very stressy day getting the IVFDF program to the printers I relaxed* at Stowmarket. As well as the usual pleasures of ropes, knots and harnesses, highlights included watching emperor haul himself up the Giant Overhang in a way that made my inner monkey drool at the alpha male, and encouraging arnhem to tear off his clothing :-) I seem to be improving slightly, I can potter about on the very slight overhangs in a far less precarious way nowadays, but I had three failed attempts at the reds and will have to leave it for another week. Feeling all warm and fuzzy and exercised, and chattering away on the way home is good too.

mirabehn was here on Tuesday, so I took a longer lunch than was strictly wise to celebrate this in the pub with her, libellum and my M. Strange how it takes someone to come all the way from London to actually get me to see libellum, but it's always nice when I do. I am however, a Wuss, who is not used to a pint of beer at lunchtime, and so probably rambled on very boringly for the rest of the afternoon ;-)

I gave the busses their annual chance to impress me on the way to pick up the car from its MOT; they failed. I was seeking a Big Green Bus, found one, smiled at the driver, popped my head round the front of the bus to check it was going in the right direction, went to get on it - and he closed the doors on me and drove off, leaving me waiting oh, a whole 7 minutes for the next one! Grr. And he gave me a snide "Hah! Because you checked where I was going instead of wasting my time by hopping onto the wrong bus and bombarding me with questions, I can leave you standing in the cold!" look.

Wednesday evening was more geek exercise, with arnhem and family at Parkside (and an unexpected stephdiary! I never know what to do in those situations - obviously I am pleased to see steph, who I do not see enough of, but he is probably there for a Serious Swim, and some zen like space to clear his head, and I'm not conducive to either of those things really. I think I ought to make it clear that I go away when told without taking offence, but am only there to mess around and company is nice :-) ) It was miserably cold after last week, but the company was good, and I enjoyed myself swimming underwater and hoping that sitting-dives don't fall under the remit of the no diving signs... Then back, for the fulfilment of many of my hearts longings (well, at least the ones for luxury pizza and excessive amounts of chocolate icecream).

*Well, it was relaxing after I'd fought their horrible harness hire system.

I didn't mind at all. I'm not a good swimmer and rarely do a "Serious Swim", and as long as I get some swimming in, it's no problem to stop and chat. (Though the water was too cold last night to stay still for very long!)

Spring is in the air

You are kidding, right? It's been bloody cold this week compared to either of the last two, and today in particular I got up to find some sort of ice product[1] all over the car. If spring is anywhere, it ain't here.

[1] which oddly didn't resemble any of snow, hail or frost, but was most reminiscent of the "crushed ice" used in a culinary context. Didn't know it fell out of the sky until today.

Wish I'd been there to see you climb and do some myself. Maybe next Monday.

That would be nice :-) Although after Stowmarket were both nasty and incompitent about harness hire, I have a huge preference for Peterborough now :-)

What you need... is your own harness. Then it goes away. Of course this isn't an inconsiderable outlay. Or something. I find Peterbruff to be a bit too... claustrophobic sometimes, unless I'm climbing alone without a rope. Still, anywhere is good.

Hoorah, exercise good. I've been doing lots of walking home from social whatists this week, even if the cold has been making my nose run. I'm not very good at group exercise, mainly because I'm crap and unfit.
