Twas on a Sunday evening, the boy came off his bike
His hand looked rather injured, there was something not quite right
The gravel had been slippy as he rode along the path
But I said "pull yourself together" and I dumped him in the bath

Oh it all makes work for the NHS to do...

On Monday afternoon, afeared, that broken it might be
We drove through central Cambridge and we went to A + E
They said there'd been an accident, a wait 5 hours long
So Matthew bravely stated that the hand was not that wrong

Oh it all makes work for the NHS to do...

Twas on a Tuesday morning, he went to his GP
Who prodded it and poked it, then declared "well, it might be"
"Just so we are all certain, you should go for an Xray"
"But they're busy till tomorrow so for now please go away"

Oh it all makes work for the NHS to do...

Twas on a Wednesday morning, before the break of day
At five past eight we turned up, and they gave him an Xray
"We're sorry Sir, it's broken, though we hoped it would be fine"
"So you need to see the consultent, but he's not in till nine"

Oh it all makes work for the NHS to do...

So back again we went to sit around in casulty
They offered him some painkillers, but then just let him be
They tied it up with sellotape and put in it a sling
And referred him to fracture clinic, said it would be just the thing

Oh it all makes work for the NHS to do...

On Thursday back to Addinbrookes, we paid the parking fee
Their capitalist carparks were by now bankrupting me
We waited and we waited, hoping he would be seen soon
But the first time that they called him, they just changed his waiting room

Oh it all makes work for the NHS to do

Eventually they saw him, for about 2 minutes time
And they said "we won't do anything, and with time it will be fine!"

...oh, Addenbrookes fracture clinic. Yes, they do tend to have that attitude of "it'll be fine with time, now go away".

*is not planning to go back after the reaction she got to her possible coccyx fracture*

Hope his hand's getting better. :)
